Comfort Dentistry

What is Comfort Dentistry?

If you are worried about going to the dentist, a comfort dental is an alternative to consider. Some people put off dental care for years because of their dental anxieties. Now, with comfort dentistry, you no longer have to worry. There are three main kinds of comfort dental care including nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas, IV-sedation, and oral medication.

Why Comfort Dentistry?

If you need a dental procedure, like getting a tooth extraction, and have anxiety about going to the dentist, comfort dentistry may be a great fit for you. Comfort dental care puts you in a relaxed state to eliminate the stress and fear you have associated with dental procedures. Don’t like the side-effects of sedation dentistry? We now offer Oraverse— a reversal agent for the symptoms that linger from local anesthetics. Imagine being able to go to the dentist and having your dentistry done in a relaxed, anxiety-free environment.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dental care allows dentists to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. There are several benefits of sedation dentistry, including:

  • No memory of undergoing the procedure
  • No sense of time while under sedation
  • No sense of smell or sound
  • No fear or anxiety during treatment

What levels of sedation are available to me?

Oral sedation:

Anxiolysis, the lightest form of sedation dentistry and is often used for patients with mild anxiety and shorter or less complex procedures. Usually administered orally, with mild sedation you will feel a great sense of relaxation. You will remain awake or very sleepy throughout the entire procedure and are able to breathe on your own. Patients typically recover from anxiolysis sedation within a few hours after the procedure is complete. Nitrous oxide inhalation (laughing gas) is another form of mild to moderate sedation where you are very relaxed during treatment.
